AMG may be responsible for Mercedes’s most powerful and attractive models, but this high-performing brand has not used its full potential as a car manufacturer. Sure, the Affalterbach-based division brings us AMG’s amazing SLS, and more recently, GT AMG, but has not developed more than one stand-alone vehicle at a time. With bits of gossip that AMG is considering a car that did not depend on existing Mercedes models, the present brand lineup will soon advance to incorporate the second AMG item.

The company’s plan to develop four-door high performance becomes more than seen at the Geneva Auto Show 2017, in which Mercedes-Benz launches the concept of AMG GT. The show car also confirmed that the sedan will be based on the AMG GT in terms of design, but it still features some of the more traditional Mercedes cues seen in regular sedans. Overall, this concept is quite a lot among sports cars AMG GT and coupe coupe CLS. In addition, the fact that the design concept is not too wild means the production model can be very similar. The prototype seen on public roads by 2017 confirms that.

As you can see in the rendering above, I am very confident that AMG sedan will basically become a four-door Mercedes-AMG GT sports car, but with the sleek elegance you get with CLS. You can not see it in recent spy shots, but that’s because Mercedes is still using a donkey based on the E-Class. But the end result will be as good as Porsche Panamera and Audi A7, so look for a sporty, low-slung four-door.

The nose will have a close resemblance to the AMG GT, especially the grill and headlights. But while the former will most likely be identical to the coupe, the latter should take a less aggressive shape, but stay lean and tilt toward the curvature of the nose and wheels. Below, we should see a thin intake in every corner of carbon fiber bezels, and carbon fiber dividers.

In hindsight, look for Mercedes to save most of the concept car design, but do not expect to get extra thin taillights on the production model.

To the side, we designed GT4 as a slightly leaner CLS version. The roof is below, the rear windshield has a smaller angle than the beltline, while the decklid is shorter. The shorter wheelbase and exclusive wheels also help this AMG sedan separate from the CLS63.

Around the back, look for Mercedes to retain most of the design of the concept car, and the test vehicle confirms that the plane will get extra thin tallights as seen on the AMG GT sports car. The racing-inspired diffuser seems to have been replaced with a lighter version, while the large exhaust pipe in the middle is made for a quad layout with two outlets on each side.

2019 Mercedes AMG GT4 Ineterior

Just like the exterior, the interior of the sedan must emulate the AMG GT from the front seat and so on.

After a few months since our paparazzi caught the first donkey on the way, they finally got a nice shot from the interior. And the dashboard appears identical to the E-Class. This is not surprising given that the AMG GT4 will share the base with a mid-class sedan, but I’m sure it’s just a temporary thing. While the E-Class has a beautiful interior (arguably the best and best equipped in its class if you ask me), GT4 requires something unique to stand out. So while it may share some gestures with other Mercs, most of the layouts should be different.

All told, like the exterior, the interior of the sedan should emulate the AMG GT from the front seat and so on. We can see some of the same gorgeous “flight design” themes with wingspan dashboards and wide foliage, and stylized headlight vents overhead for the front of the driver and front passenger, separated by center-inspired consoles from motorsport and V-8 layout -like for AMG Drive Unit control.

The sporty and luxurious themes will continue behind the front seats, although the sunroom and headroom may be a bit narrow for the taller adults. On the other hand, many connectivity features and access to car infotainment systems should make the ride enjoyable for rear passengers.

2019 Mercedes AMG GT4 Powertrain

The loaning procedure of the AMG GT sports auto will proceed in the engine of the GT4, with the inspiration gave by the bi-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8. Powerplant can find its way into the sedan in the same two output configurations as in a sports car, which means there will be a GT4 with 469 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and a GT4 S with 515 big horses and 490 pound-feet.

However, there are rumors that Mercedes-AMG could go with higher output, possibly close to 600 horsepower. This achievement should not be a problem given that the VG8 amplified AMG GT R produces 577 horsepower and 520 pound-feet bend. And considering the types of cars like the Porsche Panamera Turbo and the Aston Martin Rapide comes with a 600-horsepower Mercedes-AMG four-door is actually a very good idea.

The switching duty will be handled by seven speed, dual-clutch automatic known as AMG Speedshift DCT. However, the performance will not be the same as the GT AMG, because the longer GT4 chassis and extra bodywork will lower the 0 to 60 mph sprint in the range of four seconds. Specifically, while the GT AMG each requires 3.7 and 3.9 seconds, the sedan is likely to reach 60 mph in about 4.0 and 4.2 seconds. These numbers will make GT4 a strong contender for Porsche Panamera GTS and Aston Martin Rapide S.

On the other hand, the 600-horsepower GT4 will be able to reach 60 mph in less than three ticks.
Hybrid models are also possible, especially given the current market trends, and diesel can also fit in the book. If offered, the latter will most likely be sold in Europe alone, so do not expect to cross the pool to the United States.

2019 Mercedes AMG GT4 Price

It’s too early to talk about the price given, we still do not know whether AMG will build this sedan or not, but if it’s produced, the GT4 should start at about $ 170,000 in the United States. As a reference, the Mercedes-AMG GT S takes $ 129,000 before the option.
